RTHK Radio 3 DJs Tim Littlechild and Chantel Shafie have set a new Guinness World Record by travelling to every single subway and train station in Hong Kong in under nine hours.
The pair managed to reach 83 stops on the territory’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system in eight hours and 18 minutes, beating previous records in London and New York.
They raised almost US$13,000 (HK$100,000) for RTHK’s annual charity Operation Santa Claus.
The challenge started on Monday at 8am at Lok Ma Chau station, at the border with the Chinese mainland.
The pair made live broadcasts every hour while travelling around the rail and underground network.
They reached their last station, Sheung Wan, after 4pm.
Shafie joked with the South China Morning Post (SCMP) that they had “lots of strange looks” on their journey.
The duo, who host Something for The Weekend on RTHK Radio 3, were helped by MTR staff to plan the fastest route, repeating the fewest number of stations.
Operation Santa Claus 2013 – a collaboration between RTHK and SCMP – has so far collected US£1.87 million (more than $HK14.5 million) since fundraising began in late November.
