Singapore’s 987FM crowned the first male winner of its hunt for a new DJ – ‘987 Radio Star 2014’, on Saturday.

Phua Dafril Izzad walked away with $3,000 cash, a contract with 987FM and a trip to Amazing Sydney.

Other finalists included Nur Jannah Cheang Binte Muhd Khairi, Tan Yu Xuan Charmian, Martin Chew Shi Qiang and Ariel Tee.

They were chosen through public voting and then mentored by past winners Sonia Chew and Kimberley Wang alongside The Muttons, Justin Ang & Vernon A.

The grand finale was judged by DJs Mike Kasem and Rosalyn Lee, Assistant Programme Director for 987FM, Vanessa Fernandez and Vice-President of English Programming, MediaCorp Radio, Georgina Chang.

Speaking on his win, Phua Dafril Izzad said: “It still has not sunk in yet that I won the competition but I’m really happy to have been given this opportunity. I’m incredibly grateful for the guidance the 987 DJs have given me especially my mentor Sonia. I’m really excited and will strive to learn as much as possible so that I can be the voice that keeps you laughing and entertained.”
