English Premier League on radio in India?

English premier league matches could be broadcast on radio in India for the first time if a deal is confirmed with All India Radio (AIR).

Bangalore-based Kshatriya Sports has confirmed to Asia Radio Today that they are in advanced talks with the public broadcaster.

Kshatriya, through its London-based business partner Indian Football Evolution, says it has signed a contract to deliver premier league commentaries across South Asia from UK radio station talkSPORT.

The British national sports talk station owns global audio rights to the games.

Kshatriya hopes to run match commentaries on AIR in English first and at a later date in Hindi.

It also plans tie-ups with radio networks in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and The Maldives.

As with similar TalkSPORT deals, the rights to FA Cup and League Cup games are also included.

The company also hopes to to attract interest from India’s commercial radio industry.
