BroadcastAsia opens with new commitment to radio

Nine sessions dedicated to discussing the future radio are promised at the 19th edition of BroadcastAsia, which got underway in Singapore on Tuesday.

Effectively renewing their commitment to radio, organisers Singapore Exhibition Services have committed an entire day’s conference track looking at threats and opportunities for the sector.

Kicking off with an address by Mike Powell, Vice President of International Operations for the radio scheduling/automation software provider RCS, Thursday’s radio themed day will see several industry experts discuss how the sector can maintain profitability in the face of new competition and delivery platforms.

The morning schedule looks like this:

10.45am Opening Address: Mike Powell, RCS

10.50am How can radio leverage next generation devices and Social Media to take full advantage of its unique audience relationship – a presentation by Georgina Chang, MediaCorp.

11.20am How can radio broadcasters leverage the digital lifestyle era to improve their business performance – by Joddy Hernady from Telkom Indonesia.

11.50am Panel discussion: How can traditional radio broadcasters compete with international and online music sources?  Panelists include Charles W Kelly Jr, from Nautel Limited and Simon Kendall, BBC World Service.

The afternoon schedule will include:

1.30pm Boost advertising revenue, lower operating costs and increase operational flexibility through targeted ad insertion – presented by Doug Lowther, International Datacasting.

2.00pm How can radio broadcasters best leverage the internet to grow their audience? presented by Vishnu Devarajan, Star Radio Group, Malaysia.

2.30pm Radio in a digital world – The BBC experience, presented by Simon Kendall, BBC World Service.

3.20pm MPX Over AES: A new method for connection audio processors to FM transmitters – with Charles W Kelly from Nautel Limited.

3.50pm Leveraging xHE-AAC technology for high quality audio at lower bit rates – by Alexander Zink, Fraunhofer IIS and DRM Association

4.20pm Hybrid Radio – a progress update by Nick Piggott, RadioDNS.

4.50pm Chairman’s closing remarks

BroadcastAsia 2014 covers will see nearly 700 exhibitors and thousands of visitors come together over four days at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
