BBG names Andy Lack as CEO

The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) has named respected journalist and media executive Andrew Lack as its Chief Executive Officer.

Lack would be the first-ever CEO of the federal agency that oversees U.S. international media including Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio and TV Martí, Radio Free Asia (RFA), and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks.

His selection follows an extensive search process launched by the BBG in October 2013.

Lack is currently the Chairman of the Bloomberg Media Group and has also served as Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment and President and CEO of NBC.

Holding a bachelor’s degree from the College of Fine Arts at Boston University, Lack started his career with CBS News in 1976 and went on to win many awards for shows like ‘60 Minutes’ and ‘CBS Reports’.

BBG Chair Jeff Shell said: “Andy Lack has an unmatched record as a journalist and media executive, and he has successfully steered large organizations through changes in competitive media environments.”
