Asia wins 27 awards in New York

Asia-based radio stations picked up a total of 27 awards for radio programming at the recent New York Festivals Awards.

Indian radio networks were awarded three gold awards.

The Mumbai headquartered Radio City was chosen in the best sound category for its in-house production acapella jingle.

MY-FM, which is run from the capital New Delhi, won gold for its ‘Borderless Radio’ collaboration with Coca-Cola in the best event category.

One of India’s largest FM networks, 92.7 Big FM picked up gold in the best station ID category for its early morning jingle.

Silver awards went to 92.7 Big FM and Fever 104 while both networks also picked up finalist certificates along with Radio Mirchi, Red FM, MY FM and Radio Mango.   India’s tally totalled 18 awards.

Among seven awards for Hong Kong state broadcaster was a gold trophy in the current affairs category for ‘The Girl in the Green Dress’.

The programme told the story of a Pullitzer prize winning photo, which shows an 11-year-old Afghan girl, standing amid several dead people after a suicide bomb blast in Kabul.

Cantonese documentary ‘Double Nots, Original Sins?!’ won bronze under the social issues category.

South Korean broadcaster KBS won bronze in the social issues category for the Korean war documentary ‘I Died Alone, Without a Soul by My Side’.

Radio Taiwan International won the territory’s only award, a finalist certificate, for its documentary ‘China’s Weibo: Tiny Blogs, Huge Impact’.

The New York Festivals Radio Awards Gala took place at Manhattan Penthouse in New York City on June 17.

Winners received art-deco radio microphones.

The winners were decided from a panel of judges comprising dozens of radio production and programming specialists from around the world.
