Another radio journalist killed in Philippines

57-year old Samuel Oliverio became the latest victim of deadly attacks on journalists in Digos city in Mindanao, southern Philippines, reports the French news agency AFP.

Gunmen shot him twice in the head last Friday morning when he was returning home from the public market with his wife, said police.

Oliverio, who worked as a commentator on Radio Ukay and Supreme Radio was a known critic of local politics, illegal gambling and drugs, according to his colleagues.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines(NUJP) has condemned the killing as police investigate if it was work-related.

He is the 28th journalist to be killed after the country’s new President Benigno Aquino took over, and third to be killed in Digos city since 2006.
