All India Radio reaches 99 percent Indians

According to a survey by India’s public broadcaster All India Radio (AIR), its medium wave (AM) and FM channels cover 99.2% of the population and 92% area of the country.

The study also found that its FM services reach 44.5%  of the population and 32% of area.

AIR is one of the largest radio networks in the world and its domestic services include 414 stations across the country offering programming in 23 languages and 146 dialects.

The broadcaster has a network of 38 audience research units to carry out periodical surveys of its programming and reception.

The sample survey, which was conducted from 2011 to 2014, included AIR’s primary channels – Vividh Bharti, AIR FM Rainbow and AIR FM Gold.
