33 laid off, 50 redeployed at MediaCorp

Singapore’s largest broadcaster MediaCorp has retrenched 33 employees and redeployed 50 others, according to Channel News Asia.

This was announced by CEO Shaun Seow in an internal email on Thursday, April 9.

Those who have been retrenched will be offered severance payments and outplacement support.

The decision follows MediaCorp’s recent reorganisation of its corporate structure to become more customer-centric in the evolving global media scene.

According to the Singapore Union of Broadcasting Employees (SUBE), it had negotiated for 20 of those who are its members and were affected by the restructuring exercise.

As part of outsourcing agreements, 12 other staff will be offered jobs with MediaCorp’s partners.

MediaCorp and the union also agreed to a pro-rated Annual Wage Supplement, a training grant of up to $500 on a reimbursement basis as well as extended medical coverage till 8 June 2015 for non-unionised staff.
