2Day FM backs morning show trio despite ratings

Sydney’s 2Day FM is “absolutely” going to continue with its new breakfast show in spite of falling ratings and declining market share.

Hosted by Jules Lund and Merrick Watts and Sophie Monk, the show launched in Jaunary following the departure of  long-term hosts Kyle & Jackie O to KIIS 1065.

SCA’s Group Content Director, Craig Bruce told that the challenge is to find an audience and a position in the market against shows that have been around for a long time.

Although bosses are disappointed with the ratings, they don’t think the number reflect how the show is sounding.

The station had originally re-launched the breakfast show with four hosts including former Spice Girl Mel B but later trimmed it down to three.

Other show currently beating the trio are Amanda and Jonesy on WSFM 101.7 and Fitzy and Wippa on Nova FM.

The station says it is following a game plan that was set up at the start of the year and will continue with Monk, Lund and Watt in 2015.
