Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan once dreamed of becoming a radio presenter and even had an audition at the Mumbai studio of All India Radio (AIR) where he met iconic announcer Ameen Sayani, reports IBN Live.
Ameen Sayani, who was at the peak of his radio popularity in India in the late 1960’s and is back on air with a new retro show on Radio City 91.1.FM called ‘Sitaron ki Jawaniyaan’, revealed that since the actor had not made an appointment for a voice audition, he could not meet him.
Sayani, 81, only got to know later that it was the bollywood star who used to come to his office for auditions, when Amitabh recounted his early days of struggle.
“Today, though I regret denying him an audition, I realise that what happened was for the best for both of us. I would have been on the streets and he would have got so much work on radio that Indian cinema would have lost its biggest star,” Sayani said to IBN Live.
When asked about his opinion on radio jockeys on air these days, Sayani felt they waste their time talking nonsense.
