Malaysian Chinese language station 988 prepares to celebrate the Year of the Horse at the end of the month with a new album in time for Lunar New Year.

988 Ma Ma Mi Ya Guo Hao Nian (988 Mamma Mia Have A Good Year) is the sixth CD release by the Star Radio Group station.

The album consists of three brand new songs sung by 988 announcers KK Wong, Xin Yi, Yi Hui, Hau Min, Piao Ming, Yin Yin, Jason Poon and Cassey Soo.

It will be given away free along with angpows (the traditional Chinese red envelopes containing cash) at the station’s upcoming promotional tour.

The three songs are Ma Ma Mi Ya Guo Hao Nian (Cantonese for Mamma Mia Have A Good Year), along with Jing Cai Mei Yi Tian (Splendid Everyday), Yi Shou Xin Nian Ge (That’s One Chinese New Year Song), both in Mandarin.

“This is my second time contributing to the station’s Chinese New Year album,” said 988 DJ May, who will miss this year’s promotional tour of Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Penang and Ipoh.

DJ Hau Min added: “Each year is very special and I am glad to have the opportunity to compose and pen the song, Yi Shou Xin Nian Ge. I believe it would make the brand New Year more meaningful.”

Health screening company DNA LAB is sponsoring the album and tour.

Chinese or Lunar New Year begins on January 31st.
