Outspoken HK anchor won’t back down after reshuffle

Li Wei Ling, the former host of Comercial Radio Hong Kong’s morning show ‘On A Clear Day’ says she wont be silenced after being moved to a new show.

The Chinese-language journalist, who was known for being critical of the government and its policies, was moved to the evening slot by station bosses last month.

She told the South China Morning Post: “A good host spells out well-reasoned beliefs, rather than just sitting there as a moderator.”

“Speaking my mind on air, I’m not being subjective, as my claims are based on facts.”

Li had previously claimed her sidelining was politically motivated and may have been a precondition for the station to have its license renewed in 2016.

Her critics have dismissed her as unprofessional in urging people to join anti-government marches in the city.

But Li says she’s even more compelled to strengthen her career as a radio journalist as she feels an exceptional sense of crisis surrounding the whole media industry in Hong Kong.
