Indian eastern city of Aizawl gets private FM radio

93.5 RED FM launched its newest station in the far-eastern Indian city of Aizawl on Monday.

The latest switch-on means the brand, which is owned by Sun Group, is now live in more than 40 cities.

The city of Aizawl, in Mizoram state, was auctioned under Phase II of private radio licensing by the Indian government in 2006 but has taken seven years to go live.

The launch comes a month ahead of the expected rollout of Phase III, which will see 839 FM frequencies auctioned in 227 cities.

Speaking about the launch of the new station, Nisha Narayanan, Chief Operating Officer, RED FM said: “We are very excited and extremely happy to finally launch our Aizawl station and add another to our network. We are sure that the people of the city would appreciate the kind of music and content we have to offer.”

“Radio being a local medium, Red FM Aizawl will play Popular Mizo and Gospel music, but the Station has plans to promote local artists and music in a big way in the coming months.”
