World Radio Day 2015 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is all set to observe the World Radio Day (WRD) 2015 at a local as well as national level on February 13.

The country’s public, private and community broadcasters will celebrate the day under the World Radio Day Observation National Committee (WRDONC) – formed by the Ministry of Information.

WRD was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011 to encourage major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality over the airwaves.

Its theme for this year is ‘Innovation and Youth in Radio’.

WRDONC will arrange a seminar, cultural programme and antique radio set exhibition inviting representatives from media, administration and civil society.

The topic for the seminar is ‘Radio – Challenge, Opportunity & Development – Gender Relations and Development’.

12 regional stations of Bangladesh Betar – the state-owned radio broadcasting organisation – and 14 community radio stations around Dhaka will also organize a colourful rally on the occasion.

The country’s Minister of Information Hasanul Haq Inu will be the chief guest at the event.
