VOV celebrates its 75th Anniversary

“This is the Voice of Vietnam, broadcasting from Hanoi, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” – Vietnam's national radio station, now called the Voice of Vietnam, started broadcasting from Hanoi just a week after the declaration of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam with this declaration in 1945.

The first Vietnamese-language radio transmission was made on 2 September 1945, when the President Ho Chi Minh read out the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Over the years, this announcement has become familiar with Vietnamese audiences of many generations both in Vietnam and abroad.

On September 7, VOV will celebrate its 75 years of broadcasting.

VOV now operates 8 radio channels, 17 television channels, 2 online newspapers, a printed newspaper and a monthly magazine. Broadcasting in 13 foreign languages and 13 ethnic languages, VOV has more than 2000 reporters and editors, 13 overseas representative bureaus and works in cooperation with nearly 50 international media organizations.

As of 2004, it was estimated that VOV programs reached more than 90% of all households in Vietnam.

In 2020, VOV launched a new logo, marking a significant milestone of VOV as a leading multilingual and multimedia agency in Vietnam, with the convergence of all four of its media platforms.

ABU Secretary General Dr Javad Mottaghi expressed his congratulations to VOV and stated: “The ABU family congratulates VOV on its 75th anniversary and wishes another 75 glorious years of being a part of our shared history, together. Congratulations and long live the Voice of Vietnam.”

Other broadcasters also shared their greetings with VOV on its 75th anniversary:
