UAE regulators finalise radio and TV code

Together, the National Media Council (NMC) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (RTA) in UAE have set up a regulatory formula for issuing of media content licences for radio and TV broadcasting services, reports The Gulf Today.

While stipulating the need to respect religious, cultural and social local norms, the norms also encourage freedom of expression, constructive interaction and balanced and responsible media content.

The measures also address the need to co-ordinate the use of the frequency spectrum for effective management of national resources.

NMC and the TRA also noted the need to develop Emirati human resources in the areas of radio and TV to contribute towards overall development in the UAE.

The NMC is the competent authority in charge of issuing media licences and of following up on content published or broadcast by the media nationwide, while the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is responsible for the issuing of frequency spectrums and telecommunications service licences.
