Two radio pros dead, three missing after Typhoon Haiyan

Two radio professionals were killed and three staff are missing following Typhoon Haiyan’s rampage across the Philippines.

Broadcaster Ronald Viñas of DYVL Aksyon Radyo Tacloban, along with technician Allan Mendiola, died when a storm surge swept through the studios on Friday, reports the Sun Star Cebu newspaper.

DYVL is based in Poblacion in Tacloban City.

A spokesman for owner Manila Broadcasting Company told the paper that the station went off air while Viñas was giving updates at the height of the typhoon – which is known as Yolanda in the Philippines.

According to GMA News, three other people – who were inside the building at the time – are still missing along with their families, who were sheltering from the storm.
