Symphony’s charity auction raises $25,000

MediaCorp Singapore’s classical music station Symphony 924 helped the company raise $25,000 through a charity auction.

The station auctioned a Boston 163 Grand Piano designed by Steinway and Sons as a part of three charity auctions to help President’s Challenge 2015 and MediaCorp Cares, the company’s flagship corporate social responsibility programme.

The only radio station in Southeast Asia devoted to classical music and the arts, Symphony 924 celebrated the final of the station’s Young Talents Project 2015 competition with a silent auction which was held over three months from June to September.

The winning bid came from Paige Parker, freelance writer and Graduate Gemologist, and her husband Jim Rogers, businessman, investor and author.

Parker said: “Jim and I both wanted to support the President’s Challenge, because the ambitious goal is to raise funds for scores of diverse charities by encouraging people from all walks of life to volunteer or contribute, which ultimately creates a stronger Singapore.”

The other two charity auctions raised $65,502.

Channel 8 variety programme, Celeb’s Curated Collections featured over 160 items from celebrities including those from MediaCorp artistes Elvin Ng, Romeo Tan and Julie Tan, which sold for $50,502.

Art pieces commissioned for current affairs programme On The Red Dot raised $15,000 in a silent auction.
