Multicultural Family Music Broadcasting, a Seoul-based 24-hour radio for migrant workers and foreign wives residing in the country celebrated its 9th anniversary this week.

Thai Ambassador to South Korea Sarun Charoensuwan also joined a presenter during a special anniversary program.

The station airs programs in eight languages – Filipino, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Arabic, Russian and Mongolian – over cable TV channels, online and smartphones throughout the day.

Ambassadors from all of these eight nations sent congratulatory messages to the broadcaster, according to its operator Woongjin Foundation.

The foundation, which has been creating and supporting a number of social welfare programs, says it will continue to endeavour to strengthen the station as a communication channel to help multicultural people settle in the country and indulge their nostalgia.

According to a Woongjin official, the number of Internet listeners alone reached some 40 million as of the end of last year.

The radio station talks about Korean culture and traditions and provides daily tips on life in the country.

It also offers news on the eight countries it covers and Korean-language classes while playing K-pop music.
