RTHK Radio 4’s ‘Christmas Concert in the Park’

Radio Television Hong Kong’s (RTHK) Radio 4 organised its ‘Christmas Concert in the Park’ this year in the city centre of Kowloon with musicians, music lovers, and music.

The Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia under the direction of conductor Victor Tam presented a programme that included popular dance music such as Blue Danube Waltz and Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka by Johannes Strauss Jr., and selections from Tchaikovsky’s famous Nutcracker Ballet.

A group of performers marched in to the Piazza and also invited the audience to sing along with them.

The Learners Chorus and the bass baritone Apollo Wong presented a brand-new Christmas Medley to the audience.

And for the thirteenth year in a row, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus was also heard featuring the young talented percussionist, Elise Liu, one of RTHK Radio 4’s Young Music Makers, as the soloist this year.

Elise is a percussion performance major student at the prestigious Eastman School of Music, studying under the guidance of Professor Michael Burritt.

She presented the premiere of Dancing on the Woods, which consists of a number of dance tunes for marimba and wind band, arranged by young Hong Kong composer Edward Lun.

The pre-show performance featured a group of Chinese music players who played famous Christmas carols in a Chinese musical style on traditional Chinese instruments.
