RTHK and media friends celebrate CNY

Hong Kong public broadcaster RTHK ushered in The Year of the Horse by welcoming local media to a Chinese New Year event at its Broadcasting House headquarters on Wednesday.

The invitation came just days after the government rejected for a second time, plans to build a new studio complex at a cost of US$683 million (HK$5.3 billion).  The proposals were rejected as too expensive despite the cost being cut by about $94 million (HK $731 million).

Thirteen representatives from the territory’s various media organisations were welcomed including Bianca Ma, Managing Director of Metro Broadcast; Kelvin Lai, General Manager of Digital Broadcasting Corporation and Zhao Ying Chun, Executive Director of i-Cable Communications.

Also there were Ken Kwow, Programme Development Manager of Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting; Carol Yu, Executive Head of Phoenix U RadioLirong Fu, CEO of from Asia Pacific Satellite TV Media Group Limited and SK Cheong, GM of Television Broadcast Limited (TVB).

A hip-hop dance troupe disguised as the God of Fortune helped launch the event and later a traditional lion dance performed.

Ttwo deputy directors from the media accompanied Ambrose Ho, the Chairman of media regulator Hong Kong Communications Authority and Roy Tang the broadcasting director of RTHK to officially welcome the prosperous Year of the Horse.

The highlights of the CNY celebration will be broadcast on RTHK radio on Sunday.
