RFA/VOA radio shows still popular in Cambodia

Radio Free Asia (RFA) and Voice of America (VOA) remain among the most widely used news sources in Cambodia, according to latest data issued by the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) and Gallup,

The BBG credits this in part to a successful affiliate strategy which places their programming on popular national radio and TV networks.

According to BBG Governor Michael Meehan: “Together they reach almost one in three Cambodians weekly.”

There’ also been a large growth in the use of FM-enabled mobile phones to listen to radio content.

57 percent urban Cambodians use a mobile phone to listen to the radio compared to 50 percent who use a traditional radio set.

69.6 percent of rural weekly radio listeners are still likely to use a traditional radio set, but more than a third tune in using a mobile phone.

The BBG supervises all U.S. government-supported, civilian international media including RFA and VOA to support freedom and democracy.
