India’s state-owned public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has issued a formal Notice Inviting Programme Proposals (NIPP), calling on production houses, private producers, content aggregators and rights owners to submit programming for broadcast on All India Radio (AIR).
The objective of the initiative is to enrich AIR’s programming with innovative, high-quality audio content, promote regional content and generate revenue through content sourcing arrangements.
The programmes cover a wide range of formats including radio dramas, documentaries, storytelling, quiz shows, and music-based programs.
Proposals can be submitted under three modes: revenue sharing, sponsored programming, and gratis content.
Under the revenue sharing mode, the production costs are borne by the producer and the revenue generated through advertisements or sponsorship shall be shared between Prasar Bharati and the producer. Producers receive a 70 percent share if they bring in the advertising, and 65 percent if the broadcaster handles marketing.
Under the sponsored modem the content provider is required to pay a prescribed fee to Prasar Bharati and shall be entitled to a specified Free Commercial Time (FCT) for revenue generation.
The gratis model offers a non-commercial pathway, where content is provided free of cost to Prasar Bharati, with the broadcaster retaining monetization rights.
Submissions will be evaluated on are assessed on storytelling, production capability, audience appeal, and revenue potential, with only those scoring above a defined threshold moving forward.
Producers will be required to deliver banks of episodes in advance, maintain broadcast readiness, and adhere to strict content approval processes.
