‘Pop-up’ station hits Sri Lanka airwaves

Sri Lanka’s national broadcaster helped mark the country’s annual Deyata Kirula national development exhibition at University of Wayamba in the central town of Kuliyapitiya this week.

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Company (SLBC) set up a ‘pop-up’ radio channel, Wayamba 90.1 FM, broadcasting from a studio within the exhibition premises.

The station went on air on February 21 and is on air live daily from 10 am to midnight.

Several listeners have taken part in voice tests to be SLBC on-air announces.

In the studio, there have been regular singing competitions, featuring traditional sarala gee (Sinhala) songs.

The pop-up station runs until Friday, the day the exhibition closes.
