Philippine anchor accused of receiving payoffs

Philippines’ GMA Network is investigating allegations that DzBB Super Radyo host Melo Del Prado received payoffs from the state-owned National Agribusiness Corp. (NABCOR) in March 2009.

According to Philiipine Daily Inquirer, two former NABCOR officials claimed before the Office of the Ombudsman that Del Prado received checks from NABCOR totaling $5430 (Philippine Peso 245,535).

They also said that NABCOR was a conduit to facilitate the transfer of public funds meant for pork barrels to bogus non-government organisations, according to Interaksyon.

Another GMA Network employee, TV5 anchor Erwon Tulfo has also been named for having received a similar amount.

Del Prado, who real name is Carmelo del Prado Magdurulang, has refused to discuss the allegation.

GMA Network’s radio group head Mike Enriquez said: “We will conduct a thorough investigation of any allegations of violations. Due process will be observed and we will ensure that full sanctions will be applied if determined to be necessary.”
