Online program for Bangladesh community broadcasters on Covid-19 misinformation

 

Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) organized an online orientation program on vaccine education & to counter misinformation, disinformation & malinformation on January 26.

A total of 33 participants from 18 community radio stations and two from visual radio joined the orientation.

The main objective of the orientation was to create the right environment for the COVID-19: Vaccine Education & Counter Misinformation Program in Bangladesh.

The vaccine education program targets particularly diverse communities that have been most harmed and those on the front lines of the pandemic to raise awareness of the need to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in the immunization process.

The purpose of the campaign is to address the COVID-19 infodemic through the development of strategic and well-coordinated national action plans to rapidly counter vaccine misinformation and build demand for vaccination that is informed by social listening. It also aims to provide education on, and advocate for, adherence to a gold-standard regulatory review process.

It will also support journalistic efforts to fact-check misinformation about immunization process that specifically seek to support rural people that are underserved by fact-checking or targeted by misinformation.

AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of BNNRC welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of the program while pointing to the stations how their orientation will help prevent the misinformation about the COVID-19 Vaccination and answered their queries.

Protiva Banerjee, Assistant Coordinator, BNNRC briefed about outline of the programs which will be broadcast to counter Misinformation, Disinformation & Malinformation about COVID-19 Vaccination.
