New line up announced at top Sydney station

The much hyped search for a replacement for top Australian radio hosts Kyle & Jackie O is over.

Sydney’s 2DAYFM has announced a four-person team will helm the morning show from January including Spice Girl Mel B.

She will join former Triple M personality Merrick Watts, singer and actress Sophie Monk and TV presenter Jules Lund.

Scary Spice will commute between Los Angeles and Sydney for the show but it’s not clear whether she will appear every day.

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O – whose real name is Jacqueline Henderson – shocked the industry in October when they announced they were leaving their morning show of the past decade.

The pair have since confirmed they are moving across town to Mix 106.5 which will be rebranded KIIS 1065 for their arrival next month.

The unveiling of the new morning show has already led to a war of words between the old and new teams.

When asked by local media why it would take four people to replace two, new 2DAY FM host Watts replied that Sandilands “weighed as much as three people”.

Sandilands’ manager Andrew Hawkins rebuffed the put down stating: “They are the reigning No. 1 show for 52 straight surveys in a row. As far as I know, the only one who was fired was Merrick Watts, when Triple M sacked him from his drive show at the end of last year. Wild claims like this are only a cheap mechanism to get some attention and somehow make himself seem relevant.”

Owners of 2DAY FM Southern Cross Austereo have also taken a swipe at their former most treasured double-act, claiming that Kyle & Jackie O breakfast format was “out of date” and “antiquated”.

But the pair can each look forward to reported AUS $1 million dollar contracts at KIIS FM, an Australian Radio Network station, part-owned by America’s Clear Channel.
