Nepal’s state-run electronic media to be a public broadcaster

Nepal is planning to convert its government-controlled electronic media into a public broadcasting service, according to the Economic Times.

A ministerial decision to merge Nepal Television and Radio Nepal has already been made and necessary work is being done in this regard, according to the Chairman of Nepal Television.

He was speaking at a programme organised to mark the broadcaster’s 30th anniversary.

He also said that the government is also working towards introducing digital technology in electronic media, developing human resources and management.

At the event, Sunil Bahadur Malla, Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication also underlined the need to upgrade the state-run organisation.
