Nepal to crackdown on China radio ‘propaganda’

Nepal has assured India of a crackdown on community radio stations being used by China for anti-India propaganda in the region, reports Indian Express.

The small landlocked Himalayan country shares a border with both India and China.

It has agreed to shut down such radio channels primalrily in its Terai region – a belt of marshy grasslands, savannas and forests located south of the outer foothills of the Himalaya.

The issue was raised by Indian home minister Rajnath Singh with Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and home minister Bamdev Gautam at a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the SAARC Interior Ministers’ Conference in Kathmandu.

Although it has been discussed in the past as well, it is for the first time that Nepal has given an assurance of action at a high level.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Singh said: “I made it clear that India does not believe in expansionist policies and we have been assured of Nepal’s assistance in containing trans-border terrorism and other border related issues.”
