‘Nations United’ broadcast to mark 75 years of United Nations

 

On September 19, 2020, the UN will broadcast Nations United, a special, first of its kind 30- minute global film which will also be available as a unique 30-minute radio program and a selection of thematic audio packages.

Five years ago, the world agreed a historic plan to fight poverty, inequality and protect our planet- a set of 17 Goals known as the Sustainable Development Goals. To mark the United Nations’ 75th anniversary and the 5th anniversary of these Goals, in the midst of a pandemic radically transforming our world, Nations United will tell the story of the world as it is, as it was, and as it could be.

Nations United will grapple with the world’s biggest issues. It will focus on 5 stories to highlight key themes, as well as presenting the facts and solutions – the fires in Australia as a defining moment in the climate debate, the killing of George Floyd and the intensified fight for justice and equality for all, the rise of youth action to tackle climate change, Prof Sugata Mitra and the power of digital education, Malala Yousafzai and the power of a single person to inspire the world on issues of education and gender justice.

The film will combine powerful interviews with leading icons, activists and thinkers and dynamic archive stories.

The Nations United radio programme is narrated by actor Julia Roberts. Contributors include- actor Thandie Newton, actor and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Don Cheadle, actor and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh, actor and UN SDG Advocate Forest Whitaker, education activist and United Nations Messenger of Peace Malala Yousafzai, Secretary- General of the United Nations António Guterres, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed. The Creative Director of the Nations United project is Richard Curtis – writer, director and UN Sustainable Development Goals advocate.

The UN is inviting broadcasters to get involved by sharing this unique content and its timely message with their audience.

Available audio content consists of a 30-minute radio program that can be scheduled as a stand-alone feature and 6-minute thematic packages that can be used within programming and news bulletins as best suits your platforms.

• The Nations United film is also available to audio broadcasters who wish to share it on any visual and social platforms.

• Ideally broadcasters will TX the content within 7 days from this date, however content is licensed for 3 months to enable broadcast across 2020.

• Content will be delivered to broadcasters on 16th September.

• All content is being made available for broadcast free of charge and will be cleared for worldwide broadcast.

• Audio content will be in English however all content will also be available as unnarrated versions should you wish to add your own voice-over (with accompanying transcripts provided).

Here are 5 suggestions of how you could use Nations United radio content on your platforms:

• Special feature- broadcast the Nations United standalone program as part of your schedule on 19th September (or in the 7 days after). This is unique and compelling content covering 2020’s pertinent issues from a new angle.

• News content- use the shorter thematic packages in news content to reflect on UNGA, mark both the anniversary of the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals and highlight the issues raised in the program.

• Discussion- use the content as stimulus for round table, phone in and discussion programs on your network.

• Entertainment content- use wider entertainment discussion around the talent in the programming to bring the themes of Nations United and the Sustainable Development Goals into your entertainment features.

• Social platforms- invite your audience to continue the conversation on Nations United key themes across your social platforms.
