Milk radio app is No 1 in Korea

Samsung’s free radio app Milk Music is No. 1 among Korean users within six days of launch, according to Korea’s Joongang Daily.

It’s at the top in Google Play store’s free app category and has crossed 500,000 downloads.

Milk Music gives free streaming access to 3.6 million songs and only works on Samsung smartphones using Android 4.0 or later.

Users can navigate between 220 different music genres, ranging from the top 100 songs in Korea to Korean hip-hop, Korean indie music, ballads and jazz.

The app also lets users pick their favourite singers and songs and is getting good feedback on the app store, with a rating of 4.6 out of five points.

It was first introduced in the US in March, recording more than four million downloads in six months.

According to a company source, there are plans to release the app in Europe and China next.

Milk Music has also had its share of problems soon after its launch when The Korea Music Copyright Association asked the free service to become a paid one by October 10, as written in its contract.

Samsung has announced that the contract said it will directly pay the streaming charges to a subcontractor service company instead of individual customers.
