Malaysia’s Content Forum re-elects Chairman

Ahmad Izham Omar was unanimously re-elected the Chairman of Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) for a second two-year term at its 15th Annual General Meeting held on March 26.

CMCF is an industry body under the purview of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Under Izham’s leadership, CMCF registered a record year in 2014 with 624 complaints and 10 advisory enquiries from members of the public, the industry, and others in the trade and government sectors.

The total number of complaints marks an increase of close to 200 percent from 2013.

“The fact that the majority of the complaints received concerned consumer issues is proof that our public relations efforts have not fallen on deaf ears,” said Izham in his opening address.

Among CMCF’s priorities for this year include revisiting the review of the Content Code, increase engagements with the MCMC, and to continue promoting best practices across the electronic medium when sharing, creating, posting, and distributing information and images.

Izham added: “We will continue to strive forward for the benefit of this country. With digital convergence and technological advances, our role as custodians of the Content Code will entrust us with more substantive responsibilities and it is timely that this task be reignited.”
