Malaysian youth station iM4U FM closed

Malaysian youth radio station iM4U FM has closed.

Funding for the station was discontinued when the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government, led by Najib Razak, was voted out of office last year.

The station's parent organisation has since been rebranded as Impact Malaysia, but has decided not to reintroduce the radio service.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said that the current government has allocated RM10 million for the revamped version of 1Malaysia 4 Youth (iM4U), the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s initiative to encourage volunteerism among youths.

iM4u FM began broadcasting on September 15, 2014 via its frequency 107.9 fm in Klang Valley, and developed innovative youth programming and social media content associated with a range of volunteer activities.

The station's last Twitter post read:

We say goodbye to IM4U fm. Today is the last day as it will be rebranding itself with a whole set of new crew! Thank you for being the radio stations that's friendly towards new comers and plays a variety of new music. Most of all, thank you for giving me a chance too!

The station website has now gone silent and has been taken down from the internet.
