Malay stations prepare for SE Asia music awards

Singapore Malay radio stations Ria 89.7FM and Warna 94.2FM are calling for entries for an annual awards ceremony to celebrate the local Malay music scene.

Anugerah Planet Music 2013, which is now in its 12th year, will be held at Suntec Singapore on October 18.

A total of 18 awards will be presented including a new category for Best Band and the return of Best Song (Malaysia) and Best Song (Indonesia).

The winners of these categories will both compete against Best Song (Singapore) for Best Regional Song.

Music consumers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite songs and artists in the fan-driven categories.

The APM awards will also continue to celebrate and reward the ingenuity of this year’s hitmakers from  YouTube.

Music works released for public consumption from 1 January 2012 till 31 December 2012 are eligible for submission to compete in the various award categories.

Interested parties are to submit their entries to [email protected] by 20 August 2013.

“We couldn’t be more excited about how APM has turned out for the past 12 years,” said Ms Zakiah Halim, Senior Vice President of Mediacorp’s new Malay Broadcast Division.

“We’ve seen the local Malay music industry improving and continually growing over the last decade. I hope the local acts will be able to leverage on the latest technology trends and evolve into the digital music market to meet the growing needs in the region.”

Ria 89.7FM and Warna 94.2FM are owned by Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest broadcaster.
