Love 97.2’s Dennis Chew takes female musical role

Singapore’s Love 97.2FM host Dennis Chew joins the cast of ‘Ah Boys to Men: The Musical’, replacing Irene Ang, who is bowing out to focus more on her role as executive producer, reported Channel News Asia.

The musical is based on popular Singaporean films of the same name and follows a group of young men as they undergo basic military training.

The show stars many members of the original cast like Tosh Zhang, Wang Wei Liang, Noah Yap, and Maxi Lim.

Joshua Tan, who played recruit Ken Chow in the movie, will be replaced by actor-singer Benjamin Kheng.

Chew will don extra make-up and dresses to play Ken Chow’s mother, Mrs Chow.

It’s not the first time the 40-year-old has impersonated women. He cross-dressed to play a middle-aged woman in the TV variety show Paris and Milan.

Known for portraying “Auntie Lucy”, Chew is excited to be part of the production.

Speaking to Today newspaper, he said: “From a young age, musicals have been a big part of my life and I’m really excited to play a major part in Ah Boys To Men: The Musical.”

The show runs from April 18 to 27, 8pm, Resorts World Theatre, Resorts World Sentosa.
