Link: Malaysian station to drop Chinese dialects

Malaysian station Ai FM (Love FM) is to drop news bulletins in Chinese dialects from next year.

The Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) owned station has broadcast bulletins in Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka and Teochew since the 1940s.

The Star Newspaper reported that several newsreaders hace received letters informing them of the changes, which take effect on Jan 1 2014.

Reports suggest the decision was part of cost-cutting measures.
