Jocks take 100,000 steps around Singapore

Popular Singapore radio jocks took part in the ‘Taking 100,000 Healthy Steps’ campaign on Saturday to raise awareness of kidney disease following World Kidney Day last week.

Glenn Ong, Joe Augustin, Bobby Tonelli, Eugene Loh, Zhou Chong Qing, Chen Jian Bin, Xie Jia Fa, Wang Di Cong and Lin Ling Zhi spent 12 hours travelling from two ends of Singapore, visiting kidney patients at 26 dialysis centres run by the National Kidney Foundation.

The challenge co-coincided with a public event at Toa Payoh Amphitheatre hosted by other top MediaCorp personalities including Yasminne Cheng, Xiao Jia Hui, Tim Oh, RZ, Michelle Martin and Vimala.

In Singapore, an average of four people are diagnosed with kidney failure every day, putting an enormous strain on health services.

Speaking about his involvement, Class 95’s Glenn Ong said: “I am very honored to be part of ‘Taking 100,000 Healthy Steps’ to celebrate World Kidney Day. It is for a wonderful cause; to support NKF who has been doing so much for kidney patients.”

Violet Fenying of Mandarin station Love 97.2 FM added: “I am glad to be part of the walk. Walking is good for our health and doing this for charity makes it even more meaningful.”

While Eugene Loh of news/talk station 938 LIVE said: “As with any health issue, awareness is crucial. Through this event, I hope to demonstrate how accessible these centres are and how they’re helping patients.”
