Indian stations top Asian winners at New York Festivals Radio Awards 2016

 

New York Festivals® International Radio Program Awards , honoring the World’s Best Radio Programs℠, announced this year’s award-winners at the 2016 Radio Program Awards Gala on Monday at New York City’s Manhattan Penthouse.

Indian entries with 22 citations were among the top Asian winners.

South Korea and Hong Kong had six winners each while Afghanistan won two and UAE and Taiwan took home one award each.

HT Media’s Fever 104 FM led the winners tally from India with three Bronze awards and three Finalist Certificates.

It was followed by Radio City which won 5 awards including a Gold, a Silver, a Bronze and two Finalist Certificates.

Red FM won three Bronze awards, Radio Mirchi won a Bronze and two Finalist Certificates.

Radio Mantra had two Finalist Certificates, while MY FM, Radio Mango and Big FM had one citation each.

Radio Television Hong Kong won a Gold, a Silver and a Bronze Award in addition to three Finalist Certificates.

From South Korea, Korean Broadcasting System won three Bronze awards while Busan E-FM won two Finalist Certificates and Korea New Network had one Finalist. Afghan Education Production Organization won two finalist nods in the Best Radio Personality: Local Market Category.

Radio Taiwan International was a Bronze winner in the Best Writing Category.

JazzArabia was the sole Finalist from UAE in the Best Online Music Program Category.

The title of Broadcaster of the Year was awarded to the British Broadcasting Corporation.

London-based TBI Media earned Production Company of the Year.

The 2016 Grand Jury honored Athena Media, the BBC, and TBI Media with the Grand Award.

The BBC also earned 1 Grand Award, 7 Gold trophies, 7 Silver, 5 Bronze, 5 Finalist Certificates and two UNDPI Awards (1 Silver trophy and 1 Bronze).

“This year’s entries focused on the critical issues facing our world today, from breaking news to documentaries to investigative journalism. On every platform, there’s a real engagement in what’s happening,” said Rose Anderson, Executive Director of New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards.

Entries in Talk Radio categories were in the winner’s circle. “Suno Na Dilli” Radio City India earned the Gold trophy for Best/Talk Interview Special.

Three New documentary categories provided a platform for those with a distinctive voice and point of view. 

Compelling Biography/Profile entries earned Gold trophies including: “Steve, David and Goliath” Australian Broadcasting Corporation, “30 Years Man And Boy, A Calmer Chameleon: The Boy George Story” Magnum Opus Broadcasting UK. Silver trophy winners include “Conversations” Bell Media Canada, and “Arthur Miller – Speaking Of New York” Just Radio Ltd., UK and “Encountering Marina Abramović- Artist and Icon, ABC Radio National Australia.

In addition, In the Climate Change & Sustainability category, the BBC was honored with a Silver trophy for “In the Balance: The Climate Debates.”

Gold trophy winners in the Music Documentary category include: “Vocal Chords: The Odyssey of the Voice with Iarla Ó’Lionáird” Athena Media Ltd., Ireland and “The Story of the Byrds” Document Media Ltd UK. Entries earning Silver trophies: “Sinatra in the UK 1953” Trevor Dann’s Company, UK; “Bring It On Home: Led Zeppelin in the West Midlands” Birmingham City University, UK; and “Somebody Did It Better, presented by Miss Moneypenny” BBC UK.  “Sounds to Illustrate Dreams: The Lullaby: The Untold Stories of Lullabies” KBS South Korea earned a Bronze trophy.

Grand Jury selected 2016’s award-winners from entries submitted from 29 countries worldwide.

Entries were judged by the 2016 Grand Jury on production values, organization, presentation of information, creativity and use of the medium.
