‘Hands on the Car’ promo won at 75 hours

It took 75 hours for Yusman Wright to be the last man standing at a Singapore shopping mall on Tuesday with his hands on a brand new Subaru Forester 2.0i Premium.

More than three days earlier, 400 contestants had crowded round several vehicles used for the game. for a chance at one of Asia’s largest endurance contests.

MediaCorp Radio’s Subaru Challenge offered listeners the chance to win a S$85,000 car but to do so, they had to keep their hands on the car until every other finalist had walked away.

Most contestants said they would likely sell the car if they won, because of the high cost of registering a vehicle in Singapore.

Finalists were allowed just five minute breaks every six hours and had to endure heat of 32 degree celcius.

By Tuesday, after three sleepless nights, less than 30 people were left standing round the car, parked at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.

By the 72nd hour, there were just two remaining finalists, one of whom bowed out at one minute past the 75th hour.

This year’s winner, Yusman was participating for the fifth year in a row but told local media he had to enter in secret because his wife disapproved.

The overall record stands at 81 hours and 32 minutes held by the 2008 winner, Singaporean, George Lee.
