Four regional AIR channels go online

India’s national broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) has begun streaming four of its regional channels online.

Listeners of its Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Malayalam language channels can now tune into them at allindiaradio.gov.in.

These channels are in addition to FM Rainbow, FM Gold, FM Urdu of Delhi station and Vividh Bharti of Mumbai, which were already being streamed.

In a statement the broadcaster said that the Indian diaspora in countries across the globe will now be able to enjoy these programmes originating in India.

AIR also has similar plans for its national channels like Indraprasatha and Rajdhani, the statement said.

AIR’s home service comprises 414 stations located across the country, reaching nearly 92 percent of the country’s area and 99.19 percent of the total population with programming in 23 languages and 146 dialects
