The Coronavirus Radio Ideas Awards Show goes virtual

Benztown, a global leader in radio imaging, voiceover, programming and jingles, and P1 Media Group, providing research, strategies and consulting to radio stations worldwide, announced with Radiodays Europe that The Coronavirus Radio Ideas Awards Show will be held virtually on Thursday, November 12, at 9 am EST/3 pm CET.

The Coronavirus Radio Ideas Awards were voted for by professionals in the radio and audio industry worldwide. They will be awarded for the best ideas in 10 categories: Best Social Media Video Content, Best Virtual Event, Best Parody, Best Virtual Concert, Best Station Promo, Best Community Service, Best Social Media Visual, Best Hometown Video, Best Sales Promotion and Best Mega Promotion.

The jury panelists who will vote on the winners of the Best Coronavirus Podcast have also been announced. Some of the best and the brightest from the world of radio and podcasting, the judges for this category are: Kellie Riordan, Australia, Director, Deadset Studios and PodSquad Newsletter; Martin Liss, Germany, Media & Management Consultant; Adèle Humbert, France, Investigative journalist and independent podcast producer; Mike McVay, USA, President, McVay Media Consulting; Valerie Geller, USA, International Broadcast Consultant and President, Geller Media; Tor Arnbjörn, Denmark, CEO, Rakkerpak Productions and Co-Founder, Nordic Podcast Academy; and Faima Bakar, UK, award-winning journalist, Metro. Joining them on the judging panel will be Ken Benson, Partner, P1 Media Group; Anders Held, Co-Founder, Radiodays Europe; and Andreas Sannemann, CEO, Benztown.

The award for Best Coronavirus Reporting will also be judged by a small panel of industry experts and both of these special awards will be announced separately at the Radiodays Europe “Christmas Lunch” on Monday, 14th December 2020.

The decision to announce the winners of the other awards early was due in part to the in-person Radiodays Europe event moving to 2-4 May 2021, making it impossible to hold the awards ceremony so long after the voting. It was felt that the winners should be announced in this, the year of COVID-19 to recognise their exceptional work in a timely manner.

Anders Held, Co-Founder, Radiodays Europe, said: “While sadly we have had to move the in-person Radiodays Europe event to next year, we really wanted to go ahead with the Awards as they are such an important showcase of radio and audio innovation. Therefore we look forward to welcoming you on 12th November to the online announcement.”

Andreas Sannemann, Chief Executive Officer, Benztown, remarked: Voting in the awards was so close and the nominations for the awards were the best of what was posted on the Facebook page. The competition was tough in all categories and we thank all those who were nominated. It’s a thrill to recognize not only the winners, but also all the nominees who represent the unbelievable talent in the radio and audio industries. Now more than ever, people need radio stations and podcasts that effectively connect with and inform listeners.”

Ken Benson, Partner, P1 Media Group, noted: “This awards process has been a labor of love for all involved. When we first set up the Facebook page, we didn’t imagine that it would touch the lives of so many industry professionals. The breadth and depth of the content posted and the diversity and number of the nominees and the eventual winners are something we are very proud of. We look forward to announcing the winners, as there will be some surprises so watch the Coronavirus Radio Ideas Facebook page.”
