The Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) Nepal has taken the initiative to support community radios by producing and broadcasting programs for communities affected by the recent flood and landslide in Terai Madesh region this year.

Community Information Network (CIN), the news wing of ACORAB has started to broadcast life line radio programs in Maithali language called “Saranjam every day from 7 pm to 7:25 pm.

It is also broadcasting Public Service Announcements in Maithili and Bhojpuri languages during its main news bulletins.

Local community radio reporters stationed at flood-affected areas are continuously reporting to the situation to CIN, which in turn has been sharing this information with the government for rescue and relief distribution. 

Due to weak infrastructure, huge rainfall and floods, 29 community radios of Terai Madesh region have been damaged fully or partially.

In spite of this, stations are organising activities in their area to help people during the natural disaster.

To stop the spread of infectious diseases and to raise the awareness a health camp was organized at Sanosri Village Municipality by community radio Sadbhav. According to Nabin Giri, the station manager, more than 700 hundred people got benefit and 50 serious cases were referred to Nepalganj Hospital. The station also collected funds to support a local person reconstruct his house.

Janaki FM of Janakpur also helped with relief distribution to 500 families in Pipara Village Municipality in Mahhotari district.
