Boom Radio wins International Radiostar Awards

Central Institute of Technology’s (CIT) Boom Radio has recently won in two  categories for the spring awards edition on the International College Radio Platform Radioflag.

Boom Radio has been significantly increasing its presence throughout 2015, with over 3500 Facebook likes and an ultimate post reach of 218,000.

RadioStar is an organization that is dedicated to supporting and promoting college stations worldwide. The organization presents RadioStar awards to celebrate and reward fresh original content of college radio and elevates it to a larger audience.

This is the first year of the awards to feature international applications outside of the USA and Canada and Boom has won against some strong college stations.

Boom won Best Music Show for the local music program Booms Backyard, a show dedicated to local music including CIT music student recordings.

It also won Best Artist, which is when a station introduces, promotes and supports a local artist to the college platform.

Boom introduced last year’s CIT music student Kat Wilson to the college radio scene with great success.

Annika Lorienne, PR representative from RadioStar says: “Boom Radio is one of the best in representing the essence and advancement of Indie / Community and College Radio.  Their DJs are stand outs in how they connect with their listeners, brand their shows and radio station, promote the discovery of local music and deliver original and entertaining content and we think Bree Smith, the Boom Radio DJ who won a RadioStar Award for her show Booms Backyard, is a perfect example of a free form radio spirit.”

Presenter of Boom’s Backyard, Bree Smith, says: “I’m proud of the work we put in to creating quality radio at Boom. Being recognized on an international level is a true high point for the station so far.”
