BBC to launch new World Service news show

The BBC has announced a brand new news programme for BBC World Service Radio that will run across all its international platforms.

Outside Source, hosted by Ros Atkins will link the BBC’s global network of journalists with a worldwide audience using the latest in broadcast technology, according to a statement from the organisation.

Broadcasting live from the BBC’s new state-of-the-art newsroom in the redeveloped Broadcasting House, London, the show will launch initially on World Service Radio with a one hour edition.

Host Atkins will be able to move around Broadcasting House giving listeners the latest information on stories from the BBC’s extensive reporting teams.

The programme will then be developed to include an online element along with a TV offering, due in early in 2014 on the global channel BBC World News.

The show’s Editor Mark Sandell said: “Outside Source is an exercise in open journalism. It aims to open up the news process and involve the audience in understanding the news. It will be technologically advanced and ambitious but also transparent and accessible. We want it to be ‘in the moment’ as we and the audience are discovering the news”.

Outside Source will launch first on BBC World Service on October 28 at 11am GMT weekday mornings.
