Asia Pacific journalists face worse conditions – report

Conditions for journalists are worsening in many parts of Asia Pacific, according to the International Federation of Journalists.

Speaking to Radio Australia, IFJ’s acting director of Asia Pacific Jane Worthington revealed that a journalist was killed every ten days last year and 33 have been killed so far this year in the Asia Pacific region alone.

The IFJ has launched a three-week campaign to highlight violence against journalists around the world.

Most of this year’s killings took place in Pakistan and the Philippines.

Worthington said that for every journalist killed, another four were threatened and warned that such threats must be investigated.
