All India Radio denies English football deal

Indian public broadcaster All India Radio has denied it is in talks to broadcast live commentaries of English premier league matches.

Rajeev Kumar Shukla, Deputy Director General (Sports) told the Times of India that the organisation hasn’t received contact or a proposal “of any kind” relating to the EPL deal.

Bangalore-based Indian Sports Evolution had told Asia Radio Today that they were in advanced talks with AIR officials following a deal with the UK talk radio station talkSPORT, which owns global audio rights to the matches.

Fans had hoped that the commentaries would start running from yesterday’s derby between Manchester United and Manchester City.

Indian Sports Evolution’s representative Prashant Aggarwal told TOI that he was in New Delhi for further talks but did accept that AIR had rejected the chance to cover Sunday’s game.

Earlier ISO told Asia Radio Today that it was also offering commentary rights across South Asia.
