One of Bollywood’s biggest stars Akshay Kumar joined Red FM’s RJ Malishka as she celebrated nine years on her ‘Morning No 1’ Breakfast Show on Friday.

The heartthrob, along with Tamanaah Bhatia, stars in the new movie Entertainment which is released on August 8 and is getting heavy promotion across India.

Malishka presented her first morning show for Red FM’s Mumbai station on August 1 2003.

Nine years on, she is now widely recognised as one of India’s most popular radio personalities, having maintained a strong audience over the years.

Earlier in the year, she told Asia Radio Today why the show has worked so well: “My show aims to strike a chord with the average Mumbaikar and feel the pulse of the city; reach out to the common man and have an interesting mix of music, fun and major issues.”

When asked how she stays on form every morning at 6am, Malishka replied: “It’s not easy waking up but it is always exciting.  I love my job. It has all the elements of a masala potboiler – action, emotion, drama and songs.”

As part of Friday’s celebrations, the station distributed anniversary gifts including LCD TV and microwaves.
