The upcoming Radio Asia conference, to be held in Bangkok from April 26 to 28, will be the last one organised by Vijay Sadhu, Head of Radio Programming, Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).
Sadhu joined ABU in 2005 to take up the position of Senior Executive Programming.
She initiated the radio programming activities in the Union, creating several forums and devising a wide range of activities.
As a part of this effort, she organises a number of radio programming conferences and content developmental workshops, radio song festivals every year.
Over the years Vijay has set up the ABU Radio Working Party, initiated the ABU Radio Song Festival, ABU Radio News Exchange, Media 2020 Conference, Sports feeds for ABU radio broadcasters, ABU Music Exchange and ABU “Backpack” Workshops.
She nurtured and developed the RadioAsia Conference into a powerful radio content, attracting radio professionals from 4 continents. She was the main anchor for the 7th World Summit on Media for Children which was organised by the ABU. In particular, she promoted creation of new types of content for digital radio services and for Internet platforms.
Her professional experience spans more than 28 years in the field of television and radio programming and broadcasting, international interaction with professionals and international institutions.
She has served on the jury panel of prestigious international radio competitions like the New York Festival, Iran International Radio Festival, the Turquoise Festival of Turkey and Grand Prix Nova Drama Festival in Romania.
Sadhu started her media career in 1980 in All India Radio – Doordarshan, the national public broadcaster of India. As a Programme Executive, she was responsible for conceptualising, directing and creating TV and radio programme content. She also took up senior management responsibilities later, rising to the position of the Deputy Director of the National Station of All India Radio.
“It has been a magnificent media journey for me. Commencing with the media landscape in India, my progression to the world media arena has been one of my career highlights. My professional life has been enriched through my work with thousands of media professionals. My friendship and interaction with them all is what I cherish most,” she told AsiaRadioToday.
