988 FM’s drama team makes it to Malaysia Book Of Records

 

Star Media Group’s Chinese-language radio station 988’s drama team has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records for producing the longest-running Cantonese radio drama.

The award was accepted by 988 production and drama department manager Leon Lo.

The team, which has been operating for 45 years, produces some 15 radio dramas per year and has so far made more than 1,000 dramas.

There are more than 60 members in the team, comprising voice talents, director, editor, scriptwriter and sound engineering technicians.

988 dramas air on weekdays from noon to 12.30pm. It’s latest drama The Seal Of Sword is a 23-episode series scheduled to run till October 17.

988 general manager Timmund Lim, who has been a part of the drama team for five years, and recorded some 20 to 30 dramas, said that they’ve been producing radio dramas of varied genres to appeal to a more diverse audience, and to engage listeners of different ages and different interests.

Celebrities who have lent their voices to the dramas include Michael Wong, Nicholas Teo, Fish Leong, Jacky Cheung, Alex To, Twins, Jaycee Chan, Energy, JJ Lin, Wilber Lau, Fiona Sit and even feng shui master Szeto Fat-Ching.
